New plans and data share

I unlocked my iPhone 4s several months ago and had just about decided to change to T-mobile when I stumbled across the new AT&T wireless plans. So, after two aborted attempts to change plans using MyAT&T and crashing out of the website twice, I used online chat to get a rep to change my wireless plan to one of the two line family wireless plans, which, I noticed with amusement, includes wireless hot spot. I'm not sure why or how I would ever use wireless hot spot with only 1 GB of shared data. [Per Guidelines:  Keep it Relevant and Appropriate]. I think AT&T needs to come to grips with the fact that from the user's point of view there are only two data plans, unlimited and not unlimited. The idea that you can sock a customer with an extra $20 hit on their bill one month and they either won't notice or won't care is ludicrous, especially when you're trying to compete by cutting plan rates by 1/3. The fact that MyAT&T can't cope with changes to the new plans is indicative of how fast this competition landscape is changing. It was a $20 hit to my July bill that sent me to T-mobile's web site. Had I not stopped to check AT&T's site, all AT&T would have seen of me was my back going out the door. To summarize, AT&T has finally decided to become competitive on rate plans, which is a good thing, but unless the company can come to grips with the fact that the data cap well has run dry, and creates some kind of unlimited data scheme that doesn't undermine the new rate plans, every $20 hit to a customer's bill is going to be like a boot to the butt encouraging them out the door.
