This was a surpise to me when I checked on getting a new phone. If you use the re-up discount, the new device DOES NOT QUALIFY for the group discount. If you use the ATT Next monthly payment plan, you retain the discount, but, of course, you add $30 or more to your monthly bill as you pay down the new device. The monthly data plan price is an important feature, and I don't want to lose it. Of course, it is temporary and will start to creep up. Still, if all four of the family members got new discounted phones and re-upped under a two year contract, we would be in for a huge increase in the monthly bill. I wonder whether those who got those new iphones are aware of this? I point out that the rep at the company store was quick to advise me of it, and I did appreciate the warning. No new discounted iphone for me! I can't afford it.
