I think we agree the service is painfully slow, however the per Mb plans are far superior to the per minute plans in my experience. It gives you the ability to read articles, email, etc. without having to log in and out to avoid racking up the minutes @ $.35-$.75 each.
I've ran speedtests on board a few ships and the the gprs service is slower, but the time of day is a big factor with either one. When the passengers & crew are all up and about, it's just about worthless, but I'd still rather not pay per minute.
I remember when iPhoneTrip (Now KeepGo) charged $9.95 a day for 100 Mb on cruise ships, so I am really dissapointed that AT&T is so highly priced in comparison. KeepGo was making a profit on their service, which is/was AT&T based. I still have some of their AT&T sims around somewhere. They currently are priced below AT&T around the world, and offer the same service from the same roaming partners. I'd really like AT&T to bring their pricing down to a point where it is at least a consideration.
O3b is coming, and hopefully will shake up this segment soon. Thanks for listening.
