Low and behold after 7 months AT & T tells me they are going to arbitrarily add data to my service and add $30.00 to my bill and there is nothing they can do about it. I told them they could give me a credit of $30.00 a month since I do not use data and since the system cannot reverse what has happened, according to Nicol the Rep at AT & T . If I cannot have a smart phone without data through AT & T then I should not have been able to use the phone with out the data plan which of course I have for the last 7 months.
I have been a customer of AT & T for some 25 years through various mergers etc and have generally been treated o k.
It appears AT & T has gotten too big for their britches so to speak and I will look elsewhere for service..
The requirement that smartphones have a data plan has been in place for years, you should consider yourself fortunate that AT&T didn't detect it for 7 months. If you want to use a smarphone without a data plan, the simple solution is switch to pre-paid service.
