Since the Mobile Share plans are designed to be most beneficial to month-to-month customers, it seems like it there shouldn't be any issues with doing what you want. The one that I'm not sure of is if you remove a device from your account, if you will need to get a new SIM to re-activate the device back onto your account.
However, since the OP said the hotspot device would be the only device on the plan, I'm not sure they can use Mobile Share. When they initially introduced Mobile Share there was a requirement to have at least 1 smartphone on the plan but now that Mobile Share is the only plan available to new customers, I'm not sure that requirement still exists. However, there may be a requirement to have at least 1 phone on the plan. Even if that is not true, I'm not sure why you'd want to pay for unlimited talk and text for a device that can't talk or text. Plus being the only device on the plan, he may not be able to turn on/'off as he wants. There must be better options for data only for a mifi device than Mobile Share.
