I am very concerned, I just got my first Android phone on my 10 GB family plan and in 2 daysI used almost a GB of data in continuous 10 - 20 MB chunks every 1 to 3 hours. I looked in the usage manager and saw that AT&T Smart Wifi, which I had turned on because it said it saved me data usage by connecting me to wifi hot spots had used 650 MB of the data in 'background usage'
What the heck is the point of this app, it burned through 6% of my data allocation in 2 days, all I can think of is that it is AT&Ts cruel joke, I disabled it and the phantom usage went away.
What is this background usage?
